Ministry of Urban Development makes public 100 days’ progress

The Ministry stated in its details that eight of the 11 goals determined for the 100 days' period have been achieved and three projects were ongoing.

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has made public the works carried out by the Ministry in the 100 days since he took its charge and its coming plan.

He made the details of the works public, organizing a news conference at the Ministry today. The details mentions opening of the Dharahara to the construction of the Ministers’ Quarters and the administrative buildings of 25 local levels.

The Ministry stated in its details that eight of the 11 goals determined for the 100 days’ period have been achieved and three projects were ongoing.

Ministry Secretary Maniram Gelal said that the policy-level works have been moved forward after Minister Singh took the mantle at the Ministry.

“Big structures like the Shopping Complex in Damak, the Conference Hall in Butwal and the Dharahara in Kathmandu have been constructed. We have developed the operation guidelines on the modality of their operation and forwarded it to the Council of Ministers,” he said.

The Ministry has presented as an achievement the opening on September 19 of access to the general public to the main structure constructed in the Dharahara premises.

Similarly, seven health post buildings have been constructed in this period. These include the buildings of the District Public Health Office Solukhumbu, the Lungrupa Ayurveda Dispensary Panchthar, the Dadeldhura Sub-regional Hospital, the Ishibu Health Post, the Tehrathum Marekatahare Health Post, the Murtidhunga Health Post Dhankuta and the Thoklung Health Post Tehrathum.

The Ministry also stated that the government office buildings and the health post buildings damaged by the earthquake have also been rebuilt in Jajarkot and Rukum Purba.

He said that the construction of the minister’s residence in Lalitpur’s Bhainsepati has been completed. With the completion of buildings, the federal ministers, the vice-chairman of the National Assembly and security personnel have been shifted there.

Construction of Damak Business Complex, Chitwan Sauraha Assembly Hall, Reconstruction of Nepal Rastra Bank Office Building has been completed and handed over to the respective authority.

In addition, the construction of 25 local level administrative buildings has also been completed.

According to the Ministry, the target of construction of 50 suspension bridges has been taken during this period, of which 40 have been completed and 10 are under construction.

Secretary Gelal said that Nepal’s longest Triveni Susta suspension bridge, which is strategically important for improving access, has been brought into operation.

The sewage management work has been completed in the six kms area from Gokarna to Guhyeshwari in Kathmandu. Secretary Gelal also said that there is a plan to make sewerage free from Gokarna to Guhyeshwari within a month.
