Free treatment for burn victims unable to afford medical expenses

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to provide free treatment for burn victims who are unable to bear the cost of treatment.

At a press briefing today, Minister for Communications and Information Technology and government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung announced that the government will offer free burn treatment, excluding cosmetic procedures.

The free treatment will be available at several hospitals across Nepal.

These include BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Koshi State, Narayani Hospital in Madhesh State, Kirtipur Hospital in Bagmati State, Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences in Gandaki State, Bheri Hospital in Lumbini State, Surkhet State Hospital in Karnali State, and Seti State Hospital in Sudurpaschim State.

According to the Ministry of Health, approximately 57,000 people in Nepal suffer from burn injuries annually.

Until now, burn treatments have been offered at Kirtipur Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Patan Hospital, and Sushma Memorial Hospital.

Additionally, the long-closed burn unit at Bir Hospital has been reopened and has been operational since last month.
