Bhaktapur farmers busy harvesting paddy (photos)

KATHMANDU: Farmers in Bhaktapur are currently busy harvesting paddy.
The golden paddy fields appear as if they are waiting to be harvested.
Soon after Dashain ended, the farmers got engaged in cutting the paddy.
One after another, the paddy fields are being emptied as the harvesting continues.
Early in the morning, a group of 10 farmers, including Man Bahadur Basnet from Duwakot, Bhaktapur, gathered to harvest paddy. They harvested paddy planted on around one and a half ropanis of land.
Basnet said they started harvesting at 7 AM and finished by 9 AM. He shared that heavy rains this season had damaged the paddy due to flooding.
“This year, the flood ruined the paddy. Luckily, we managed to save this much. At least some rice grew,” Basnet said.
Despite the flood from a nearby stream damaging the paddy, he expressed relief that some rice was still harvestable.
