EC’s directive: Submit nomination papers with female candidates

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has instructed political parties intending to submit candidacies for the upcoming local level by-elections, scheduled for Dec 1, to present nomination papers that include female candidates.

According to the commission’s spokesperson, Narayan Prasad Sapkota, political parties are required to ensure that their nominations for the positions of rural municipality chairperson and vice-chairperson, municipal mayor and deputy mayor, and district coordination committee chairperson and vice-chairperson include women candidates.

He clarified that the directive was issued to registered political parties in accordance with the Local Level Election Act for the purpose of these by-elections.
