KATHMANDU: The fair of Adinath at Chobhar Ridge, which is held every year on the day of Ashwin Shukla Poornima, has kicked off this morning.

Harilal Shrestha, a local, said that devotees from Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas come to observe the fair which runs till Kartik Shukla Poornima.

People believe that worshiping Adinath with devotion during the fair will be good for health. It is also believed that offering prayers there will prevent skin-related diseases.

There is an integrated idol of Lord Shiva-Parvati in the Adinath temple, which is also worshiped by Buddhists in the form of Shiva and power.

Shrestha said that this is a common cultural heritage for Hindus and Buddhist followers. There is a tradition of offering various utensils and ornaments in the temple.

Devotees have been performing devotional hymns at the temple since early this morning. Located around nine kilometers south of Kathmandu, the site also gives a panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley.
