KATHMANDU: China successfully launched a new Earth observation satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Wednesday.

The Gaofen-12 05 satellite was sent into space at 7:45 a.m. Beijing time, aboard a Long March-4C carrier rocket. It was reported to have entered its planned orbit successfully.

The satellite will be used in various fields, including land surveying, urban planning, road network design, crop yield estimation, and disaster relief efforts.

This launch marks the 540th mission in the Long March carrier rocket series.
