KATHMANDU: At least three people lost their lives, and four others were injured on Wednesday afternoon after a bridge collapsed in Mississippi, according to authorities, who described it as a “work site accident.”

The fatalities and injuries were confirmed by Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins, as reported by local media outlet WLBT.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation stated in a news release that the bridge, located over the Strong River on Highway 149, approximately 40 miles (64 kilometers) south of Jackson, had been closed to traffic since September 18 due to a bridge replacement project.

The department added that more details would be shared with the public as they become available.
