Pokhara Restaurant fined Rs 200,000 for overcharging on water bottle

KATHMANDU: A restaurant in Pokhara has been fined Rs 200,000 for selling a bottle of water at Rs 100, far exceeding the maximum retail price of Rs 20 set by the water purification company.

The District Administration Office took action against “The World Lan Hua Restaurant and Bar” located in Baidam, Pokhara-6, under the Consumer Protection Act.

According to Kaski’s Assistant Chief District Officer, Shiva Lamsal, the restaurant was penalized for charging more than the regulated price.

A customer filed a complaint with the authorities after being charged Rs 100 for a bottle of mineral water, which should have been priced at NPR 20.

The local administration found that the restaurant violated section 38, clause 8 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2018, and imposed the fine under section 39, subsection 1, clause (b) of the same act.
