KATHMANDU: Five people have tragically lost their lives due to heat and crowd mismanagement during an Indian Air Force (IAF) show in Chennai, southern India.

Many others have been hospitalized.

The event, held at the Marina Beach to celebrate the 92nd anniversary of the IAF, attracted a record-breaking crowd of 1.5 million people.

According to NDTV, the show took place on a day when temperatures soared to 35°C (95°F), but there was inadequate provision of drinking water for the spectators.

Reports also suggest that the crowd caused gridlock around the beach, forcing attendees to walk long distances to reach the venue.

After the show, many people had to walk an additional 3 to 4 kilometers due to heavy traffic jams, as they attempted to catch public transport or retrieve their vehicles.
