Floods cause damages exceeding Rs 800 million in Madhesh

KATHMANDU: Recent floods have caused damages exceeding Rs 804.5 million in Madhesh State.

According to Jakki Ahmad Ansari, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Irrigation, and Drinking Water of Madhesh State, the most affected district is Rautahat, where floods from the Bagmati, Lalbakaiya, Jhajh, Lamaha, and Gujara rivers caused damages exceeding Rs 195 million.

In Saptari, floods from the Balan, Triyuga, and Mahuli rivers resulted in damages worth Rs 128 million, while in Dhanusha, floods from the Ratu, Charnath, Kamala, Jallad, Aurahi, Khahare, and Vadhari rivers caused damages amounting to Rs 95 million.

Similarly, Sarlahi experienced damages of Rs 92.5 million due to floods from the Bagmati and Lakhnehi rivers, while Baraa saw damages of Rs 85 million.

Siraha sustained losses amounting to Rs 79 million, Mahottari Rs 75 million, and Parsa Rs 55 million due to the flooding.

The state government has released Rs 80 million for the repair and maintenance of the damaged infrastructure.
