KATHMANDU: In Janakpurdham, an affordable market has been established to celebrate the Dashain festival.
The market began operating on the day of Ghatasthapana, attracting a significant number of consumers due to the low prices of goods available.
Shops at the Dashain affordable market offer a variety of products, including clothing, shoes, cosmetics, household items, decorative materials, and foodstuffs.
Visitors from surrounding villages flock to the market to purchase daily essentials.
Despite the current economic downturn, traders like Shyam Sah, who has been setting up stalls at the Dashain market each year, report an increase in consumer activity thanks to this initiative.
Surendra Bhandari, president of the Janakpur Chamber of Commerce, noted that the affordable market is designed to revitalize local business.
He also revealed plans to extend this market beyond Dashain to include the Chhath festival in the coming years.
Pankaj Kejriwal, another stall owner, emphasized that the affordable market provides a substantial boost to traders’ financial stability, with good business reported this year.
Consumers expressed their expectations of finding quality items at lower prices, although some complained about difficulties in purchasing retail items.
Every year, Janakpurdham hosts this affordable market during the Dashain festival, contributing to the local economy and providing residents with access to essential goods.
