70 lives lost in Kathmandu Valley due to floods & landslides; state casualties reported

KATHMANDU: On Sept 27 and 28, heavy rainfall resulted in devastating floods and landslides in the Kathmandu Valley, causing the death of 70 individuals.
According to Binod Ghimire, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, the fatalities occurred across three districts: Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur.
Lalitpur experienced the highest toll, with 46 fatalities, followed by Kathmandu with 19 and Bhaktapur with 5.
Additionally, there are three reported injuries and five missing persons, while 2,158 individuals have been rescued.
Across the country, the total death toll due to floods and landslides has reached 246, with 178 injured and 18 missing.
Authorities have rescued 17,174 individuals nationwide, including 35 children and 23 girls among the deceased.
The Bagmati State suffered the most significant human loss, reporting 145 fatalities, 115 injuries, and seven missing individuals. A total of 13,694 people were rescued in this region.
In Koshi State, 20 fatalities were reported, along with 14 injuries and four missing persons, with 290 rescues carried out.
Meanwhile, Madhesh State recorded 9 deaths and 9 injuries, with 35 rescues conducted.
In Lumbini State, two people died, and two were injured. In Gandaki State, 997 individuals were rescued, with no reported human casualties.
