Above-average rainfall predicted for the next three months
According to the forecast, parts of southeastern Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki States, as well as the eastern parts of Lumbini State, are expected to receive above-average rainfall.
KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has released its weather forecast for the period from Oct 1 to Dec 31.
According to the forecast, parts of southeastern Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki States, as well as the eastern parts of Lumbini State, are expected to receive above-average rainfall.
In contrast, central and northern Karnali State, as well as northern Sudurpaschim State, are likely to experience below-average rainfall, with the remaining regions expected to see average precipitation.
Rainfall Forecast
The forecast indicates that southeastern parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki States, along with the eastern part of Lumbini State, will likely receive above-average rainfall.
Specifically, the northern part of Koshi Stat, the western part of Madhesh State, and the eastern and southern parts of Bagmati State have a 45-55% chance of experiencing above-average rainfall.
Similarly, the southern parts of Koshi, the western part of Madhesh, the northwestern part of Bagmati, and the southeastern part of Gandaki State have a 35-45% chance of above-average rainfall.
Meanwhile, central and northern Karnali State and northern Sudurpaschim State are predicted to have a 35-45% chance of below-average rainfall. The rest of the country is expected to experience average rainfall with a 35-45% probability.
Maximum and Minimum Temperature Forecast
The majority of the country is expected to experience above-average maximum temperatures.
The central and southern parts of Bagmati, the western part of Madhesh, the central and western parts of Gandaki, the central and eastern parts of Lumbini, and the eastern and northern parts of Karnali have a 45-55% chance of higher-than-average maximum temperatures.
In Koshi State’s central region, the eastern part of Madhesh, and the northern part of Bagmati, there is a 35-45% probability of average maximum temperatures, while other regions have a 35-45% chance of above-average maximum temperatures.
As for minimum temperatures, they are likely to be higher than average across the entire country.
There is a 55-65% probability of above-average minimum temperatures in the western parts of Sudurpaschim and Karnali, as well as the western part of Lumbini State.
Similarly, eastern Karnali, central Lumbini, central and northern Gandaki, most of Bagmati, eastern Madhesh, and Koshi State have a 45-55% chance of above-average minimum temperatures, with the remaining areas having a 35-45% chance of experiencing above-average minimum temperatures.
