KATHMANDU: Ranjit Kumar Podar, Chair of the Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation), has been elected as the Treasurer of the World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) for the 2024–26 term.

Podar was unanimously elected Treasurer during WITSA’s general assembly held in Yerevan, Armenia, on Friday, Oct 4.

With extensive experience in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector, Podar has been leading CAN Federation since Poush 2079.

After being elected Treasurer of WITSA, he said, “Representing WITSA provides me with the opportunity to collaborate with over 80 ICT organizations globally and contribute to the development of technology. I aim to establish Nepal on the global stage in the ICT sector.” He also highlighted that his election was a clear indication of the growing international presence and role of CAN Federation.

WITSA is an umbrella organization that represents ICT institutions from 80 countries, accounting for over 90 percent of the global economic activities in the ICT industry. It promotes the research, development, and adoption of new technologies worldwide.

Chiranjivi Adhikari, Secretary-General of CAN Federation, praised Podar’s leadership, stating that his role at WITSA would further Nepal’s digital economy and enhance the country’s technological outreach. “His representation at WITSA will support our efforts to strengthen the accessibility of technology and digital economy in Nepal,” Adhikari remarked.

The newly formed 20-member WITSA committee includes representatives from five continents, with ICT experts from countries like Malaysia, Brazil, Nepal, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Japan, among others.

Previously, former CAN Federation Chair Hemanta Chaurasia served two successful terms as Treasurer of WITSA.
