KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has appointed Prakashman Singh Raut as the Chief Justice.

The appointment was made on Sunday based on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council, in accordance with Article 129(2) of the Constitution.

A swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place today at Sheetal Niwas, set for 1:30 PM.

Raut will assume the role following the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, on Oct 4.

The Constitutional Council meeting recommended Raut’s appointment on Sept 16, and the Parliamentary Hearing Committee approved his name on Oct 2.

Raut is expected to serve as Chief Justice for one and a half years.
