KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, along with the Film Development Board, has issued a public notice concerning the piracy of Nepali films and their key segments.
The notice highlights the widespread circulation of unauthorized video clips from currently running Nepali films on social media platforms, which has caught the Board’s attention.
It further states that the unauthorized misuse of these key clips could lead to significant financial losses for the producers and jeopardize the hard work of everyone involved in the film industry.
The notice warns, “Illegally uploading someone else’s creation and property on various digital platforms is a punishable offense under the law. If anyone is found engaging in such activities, they will face penalties under the Copyright Act, 2059 and its Rules, 2061, which include confiscation of the equipment used in the violation, along with fines, damages, and imprisonment.”
The Board has also requested that no one use recording devices such as mobile cameras inside movie theaters, and has urged all concerned parties to refrain from recording and circulating unauthorized video clips to avoid legal consequences, fines, and penalties.
