Hot Air Balloon flights resume after monsoon: What are the costs & important tips?

KATHMANDU: The Hot Air Balloon experience in Pokhara, which was suspended for a month due to the monsoon, has resumed operations starting this week.

The company offers flights at elevations of approximately 9,000 feet.
Passengers can enjoy breathtaking views of iconic mountains such as Machapuchare and Annapurna, as well as the full view of Phewa Lake, Pumdikot Mahadev, and the scenic surroundings of Sarangkot and Mandre Dhunga, along with paragliding experiences.
Currently, the company operates two hot air balloons. The flights will be piloted by two experienced pilots, Cleto from Spain and Harvey Alexander from the UK.
According to Bade, flights will take off from Pame, Pokhara, with two shifts daily: one in the morning from 5 AM to 9 AM and another in the afternoon from 3 PM to 6 PM. The minimum age for passengers to fly in the hot air balloon is three years.
The company’s balloons, registered under the call signs 9N-AMW and 9N-BV, accommodate 8 and 12 passengers respectively, in addition to the pilot.
Balloon Nepal is also planning to host an International Balloon Festival in Pokhara, targeting Christmas and New Year’s 2025. The festival is scheduled to take place from December 24 to January 1.
What Are the Costs?
The fee for Nepali tourists to experience the Hot Air Balloon ride is set at Rs 11,000. For tourists from SAARC countries, the cost is USD 120, while tourists from other countries will pay USD 150.
The fee includes breakfast, round-trip transportation from Lakeside to Pame, photo and video services, and a certificate.
For those wishing to have a private flight, the option is available upon reservation.
What to Keep in Mind?
When planning to fly in the hot air balloon, it’s advisable to wear warm clothing, as temperatures can be chilly in the morning.
Additionally, wearing sports shoes rather than heels or other types of footwear will ensure comfort during the flight.
