Nobel Medical College launches special discounts for breast cancer awareness month

KATHMANDU: October is celebrated worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, aiming to raise awareness about breast cancer.
In light of this occasion, Nobel Medical College Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar has announced special benefits for patients throughout October, focusing on awareness, early detection, and accessible treatment services.
Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women globally, contributing significantly to cancer-related deaths. Early identification can lead to complete recovery.
To facilitate this, Nobel Teaching Hospital is offering a 75% discount on mammography tests, 50% on biopsy tests, and a 50% discount on other general treatments once diagnosed.
Additionally, there will be a 25% discount on breast cancer surgeries and radiation therapy.
“We still have a lot to do in raising cancer awareness,” stated Dr. Rajesh Nepal, the hospital director.
He emphasized that all facilities for cancer identification and treatment are available at Nobel, making it easier for women to get tested for breast cancer.
“Gone are the days when one had to go to India or wait for months in Bharatpur for treatment,” he added.
According to Dr. Pradip Bhandari, a cancer specialist at Nobel, treatment for breast cancer includes surgery, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, targeted therapy, and radiation therapy, all of which are available at the hospital.
“For the first time in Nepal, the Varian company’s Edge machine for radiation therapy has been installed at Nobel, a technology that is rare even in India. We also have the MammoSite technology available here,” he noted.
This campaign originated from a week-long Breast Cancer Awareness initiative launched by the American Cancer Society in 1985 and is celebrated annually with various themes.
This year’s theme is “No one should face breast cancer alone.” By spreading awareness about breast cancer, it is possible to ensure early detection and effective treatment.
