KATHMANDU: The SS Foundation has honored Chaniklal Tamang for his successful rescue of individuals swept away by the Nakkhu River.

The recognition took place at an event in Kathmandu on Thursday.

Tamang was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 by the foundation for his efforts in rescuing two people who had been swept away by the river.

The honor was presented by Rajendra Prasad Lingden, the president of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

During the ceremony, Lingden emphasized the qualities of goodwill, tolerance, and humanity that he believes are inherent among the Nepalese people.

He stated that the values of service and sacrifice come not from reading or being taught but are qualities that originate from the heart.

He remarked, “Goodwill, tolerance, and humanity are deeply ingrained in the Nepalese. The qualities of service and sacrifice do not come from study or teaching; they stem from genuine feelings.”

The recognition comes in the wake of devastating rainfall across the country on Sept 28 and 29, which caused severe flooding, landslides, and significant damage in the Kathmandu Valley and beyond, resulting in considerable loss of life and property. The heavy rains have also disrupted road networks across the region.
