KATHMANDU: Last week, heavy flooding in the Bagmati River caused significant damage to the Ward Office of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-1, with estimated losses of around Rs 8 million.

The floodwater entered the ground floor of the ward office located in Kupondole’s Bagmati Corridor, destroying health equipment and vital documents, as reported by Ward Chair Nirmal Tandukar.

He stated, “We had established a basic health center through the metropolitan health branch. The health center was located on the ground floor, and advanced medical equipment and materials have been submerged. The total loss from the flood is approximately Rs 8 million.”

The flood affected crucial medical devices, including ultrasound machines, ECG machines, laboratory equipment, six computers, and various medicines. The ward chairman and local representatives have gathered to manage the situation.

Chairman Tandukar mentioned that services are still being provided from the upper floor of the office since the damage on that level is minimal. He emphasized that despite the flood’s impact, essential services have not been interrupted.

However, the health center has been rendered inoperable due to the extensive damage, according to Narayan Sah, the center’s officer. “All equipment and medicines at the health center are inoperative,” he confirmed.
