This campaign targets people above 12 years of age, those who have not yet been vaccinated, and citizens who were vaccinated over a year ago.
KATHMANDU: A campaign to administer the ‘Pfizer’ COVID-19 vaccine has started today for citizens in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City of Kailali and other local levels.
Yogesh Awasthi, the head of the health department of the sub-metropolitan city, informed that the vaccination drive is being carried out in all wards from today.
This campaign targets people above 12 years of age, those who have not yet been vaccinated, and citizens who were vaccinated over a year ago.
“Although there is currently no active COVID-19 infection, the virus continues to mutate, increasing the risk,” said Awasthi. He added that the campaign will run for three days, depending on the available vaccine stock.
The vaccination campaign has already begun in the local levels of Bajhang and Dadeldhura, including Kailali, according to the State Health Directorate of Sudurpaschim State.
Minraj Joshi, a contact person for the vaccination program at the directorate, said that 109,000 doses of the vaccine have been made available to conduct the campaign across all nine districts of the State.
Joshi also mentioned that at border points such as Gauriphanta, Gaddachauki, Jhulaghat, and Pulghat, antigen tests for COVID-19 have been conducted on citizens returning to Nepal via ‘Health Desks.’
He further explained that the vaccination campaign was initiated due to a decline in antigen testing at the border.
