KATHMANDU: Nepali students made waves by winning the People’s Choice Award for their innovative AI solution at the Asia-Pacific Digital Talent Summit 2024 in Nanning and Shenzhen, China.
The achievement was made possible through Huawei Nepal’s “Seeds for the Future 2024” program, where six talented students represented Nepal.
Among hundreds of students from across the country, the team from Nepal, Samip Aryal, Aashish Karki, Angelina Ghimire, Priyanshu Sharma, Sadhana Panthi, and Samriddhi Karki were awarded with Tech4Good People’s Choice Award.
The event featured various programs aimed at promoting global youth talent and fostering innovation.
The summit saw participation from hundreds of students across 19 countries, with the Nepali team presenting their business idea for a device called “UltraCare.”
“UltraCare is a portable ultrasound machine designed specifically for pregnant women in rural areas,” said Samip Aryal, a member of the Nepali team. “This device will be placed in small clinics and incorporates AI technology. It analyzes the condition of the fetus and provides feedback on whether everything is alright.”
Aryal emphasized that the machine can detect various complications during pregnancy, potentially preventing miscarriages. “If any anomalies are detected, the device immediately sends alerts to doctors at hospitals in urban areas. This could save the lives of women,” he added.
The achievement at the Asia-Pacific Digital Talent Summit highlights the innovative spirit of Nepali students and their commitment to leveraging technology for social good.
Huawei Nepal remains dedicated to nurturing young talent and empowering future leaders through its ongoing initiatives.
