50 years of Nepal-South Korea diplomatic relations marked

KATHMANDU: Nepal and South Korea have completed 50 years of diplomatic relations.

To mark the golden jubilee, the embassies of Nepal and the Republic of Korea organized various programs in Kathmandu on Tuesday evening.

These events were held to provide an introduction to Korean culture and language, along with a broader understanding of Korea. The programs will continue for three days, showcasing various aspects of Korean life.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary, South Korea also hosted a “Korean Digital Art Exhibition” along with a quiz competition and a Korean language oratory contest. Nepal’s Vice President, Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, attended the special ceremony on Tuesday, commemorating the golden jubilee.

Alongside diplomatic relations, trade and investment ties between Nepal and South Korea have been expanding. Entrepreneurs and business figures who participated in the event expressed their appreciation for Korea’s investment and assistance towards Nepal.

Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal, Chair of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, highlighted South Korea’s significant contribution to Nepal’s education, employment, and economic sectors.

Agrawal emphasized the success of the Employment Permit System (EPS) program with South Korea, stating that it has greatly benefited Nepal.

He further suggested that Nepal should adopt Korean technology and that private sectors should collaborate with Korea to attract more investments in industry and trade. He also pointed out the necessity for Nepal to sign a Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) with Korea.

Entrepreneur Deepak Malhotra noted that South Korea has been investing in Nepal’s hydropower, industry, and tourism sectors. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to export Nepali products to Korea, stressing that Nepal should take full advantage of South Korea’s growing interest and investment in Nepal.

Malhotra also underlined the increasing investment from South Korea in Nepal’s trade and industrial sectors.
