KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Corridor remains muddy after a flood caused by incessant rainfall since Friday.

By Saturday morning, the floodwater breached the Bagmati Corridor and entered nearby settlements, causing significant damage. Areas like Dhobighat in Lalitpur, Balkhu Bridge, Kalopul in Sanepa, and the UN Park are still covered in mud.

Though vehicles have started operating, travelers report that commuting along the Bagmati Corridor is challenging due to the mud and dust.

While the muddy conditions have reduced traffic on the corridor itself, this has increased congestion on the main roads.

Pawan Bohora, a motorcyclist, shared his experience, stating that alternative routes like the Bagmati Corridor have become difficult to navigate. He said, “There’s mud everywhere, and under the bridges, potholes filled with muddy water are causing traffic jams.”

Nirmal Tandukar, Ward Chairperson of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-1, emphasized the need for the Bagmati Integrated Development Committee to take action. “The Bagmati Corridor is submerged due to the flood. Temples, public shelters, and the Aryaghat have suffered extensive damage. The committee must actively manage this situation,” he said.

Another motorcyclist, Binod Thapa, also expressed frustration over the muddy and dusty conditions, which have made commuting uncomfortable. “It’s not a huge task to manage the situation if responsible authorities take quick action, but their delay has left the corridor in its current state,” he noted.

Meanwhile, residents living along the Bagmati Corridor are busy dealing with the aftermath of the flood. They are clearing the mud from their homes and drying out wet clothes. The locals are urging the government to provide water facilities to help them clean up the debris left by the flood.
