Bardaghat-Sardi transmission tower collapses, power supply to Hongshi Cement disrupted
The tower fell after a road in the area washed away due to the Khursani Khola river.
KATHMANDU: The tower of Bardghat-Sardi 132 KV double circuit transmission line has collapsed.
A transmission tower of the 132 kV double circuit line has collapsed in Bardaghat municipality-5, Daunne, located in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Sushta West).
The tower fell after a road in the area washed away due to the Khursani Khola river.
Following the tower’s collapse, power supply to Hongshi Shivam Cement, located in Sardhi of Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Sushta East), was halted at 6:30 PM on Monday.
The cement plant had been directly receiving electricity from the 132 kV transmission line.
Hongshi Cement has an approved electricity load of 31 megawatts, of which the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Kawasoti Distribution Center reported that it has been utilizing around 10 megawatts daily. The industry has been paying approximately 7-8 million rupees in electricity bills each month.
In accordance with a commitment made by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies to provide electricity to cement industries, the 20-kilometer 132 kV double circuit transmission line was constructed to supply power to Hongshi.
Currently, only one circuit of the double circuit is operational.
The Nepal Electricity Authority’s Butwal Grid Office has announced plans to provide alternative electricity arrangements to the industry in light of the recent disruption.
