Floods affect life in Madhesh State; loss and damage being assessed

KATHMANDU: The monsoon rain triggered floods have affected normal life in Madhes province.

The Janakpurdham-based Madhesh State Police Office informed that three people have so far died in Madhesh.

At least eight people were injured in all the eight districts of the province and their condition is normal.

According to Madhesh State Police Office spokesperson SP Subhash Bohara, two people lost their lives in Mahottari and one in Saptari while one from Sarlahi has gone missing.

Rohit Sah, 16, of Gaushala municipality-8 in Mahottari died after being swept away by the Soni rivulet while eight-year-old Prince Kumar Sah of Balan Bihul rural municipality-4 in Saptari and residing in Rajbiraj Municipality-8 was found dead.

Man Bahadur Thing, 21, of Bardibas Municipality-11, Khayarmara of Mahottari died after being swept away by the Khayarmara rivulet. Mukesh Mahato, 15, of Sakrol of Bagmati Municipality-9 in Sarlahi has gone missing after being swept away by the Soti rivulet.

Three people were injured in Rautahat, one in Siraha, one in Sarlahi and three in Bara.

Bohara said that 488 people from 96 families have been displaced in the province while 35 people stuck in the floods have been rescued.

The floods have caused damages to the physical structures of the State. Assessment of loss and damage caused by the disaster is taking place, he shared.
