161 people rescued successfully by helicopter

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has reported that by Sunday morning, 161 individuals affected by floods, landslides, inundation, and other natural disasters were successfully rescued by a Nepal Army helicopter.

Ministry spokesperson and Joint Secretary, Rishiram Tiwari, stated that as of this morning, 83 people had been rescued from various municipalities in Kavrepalanchok and relocated to safer locations.

Although a helicopter was dispatched to the area on Saturday, rescues could not be conducted at that time. Currently, three Nepal Army helicopters are actively continuing rescue operations in Kavrepalanchowk.

According to the ministry, on Saturday, 13 people were airlifted from the Kathmandu Valley, 33 from Sindhuli, and 32 from Makwanpur.

Spokesperson Tiwari added that all available mechanisms are being deployed to clear highways blocked by landslides.

As of now, floods, landslides, and inundation have caused 107 fatalities, with 64 people still missing and 73 injured, the ministry reported.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has instructed the security forces and concerned agencies to act promptly in rescue and relief efforts, ensure the treatment of the injured, and reopen obstructed roads as soon as possible.
