KATHMANDU: A landslide near Jhyalplekhola, close to Nagdhunga in Kathmandu, has reportedly buried another bus.

Rescue teams are currently working to retrieve the bus, but complete details regarding its condition have not yet been obtained.

According to DSP Surya Subedi from Nagdhunga, rescue operations have intensified following the report of a bus being buried in the landslide.

A bus, registered as Na 4 Kha 2270, departed from Lapubesi, Gorkha, for Kathmandu at 7 a.m. on Friday but has since lost contact.

Authorities suspect that this same bus might have been buried in the landslide, although the information has not yet been confirmed, DSP Subedi stated.

After the bus lost contact, a search was initiated by the local transport committee and the police. Narayan Khatri, the chairman of Daraudi Transport Pvt. Ltd., said the bus was in contact with the transport office up until 10 p.m. in the Khanikhola area, but communication was lost after that.

“We were concerned when we couldn’t establish contact with the driver after the bus passed Khanikhola,” Khatri said. “The news of the bus being buried in the Jhyalplekhola landslide has only deepened our worries.”

The rescue team reported that the landslide-affected area is highly risky, making the operation more challenging.

A significant amount of debris from the landslide is hampering rescue efforts.
