Nine identified among 14 dead in Dhading landslide

According to the police, 14 people, including the driver of the jeep, Ramesh Luitel, were found dead in the incident.

KATHMANDU: Nine people who were traveling in the Wingr jeep buried in a landslide in Jhapple Khola, Dhading, have been identified.

The Wingr jeep, with the registration number Lu 1 Ja 4578, was en route from Butwal to Kathmandu when it was buried by a landslide on Friday.

According to the police, 14 people, including the driver of the jeep, Ramesh Luitel, were found dead in the incident.

Among the victims were 15-year-old Dipesh and Dipika Bhattarai, students at Kalika Secondary School in Butwal, and their mother, Sita Bhattarai.

The identities of Sita and Dipesh Bhattarai have been confirmed, but Dipika’s identification is still pending.

Other victims include Prakash Kunwar and Sirjana Kunwar from Semlar, Butwal, and Bir Bahadur Rayamajhi, Pramila Rayamajhi, and Kris Rayamajhi from Chhargada, Gulmi.

According to the Nagdhunga Police Post, the identities of the remaining victims have yet to be determined.

Their bodies were sent to Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj late last night at around 11 PM.

The police also stated that the families of the missing passengers are gradually getting in touch.

According to the Area Police Office in Butwal, so far, tickets were purchased by seven individuals in two separate groups from the Traffic Chowk, but no additional records were found at the ticket counter.
