KATHMANDU: Due to continuous rain and flooding, the education sector across the country has come to a standstill.

The government has decided to close schools and universities for three days starting today (Sunday).

Examinations at the university level have also been postponed.

According to Education, Science, and Technology Minister Bidhya Bhattrai, while Sunday’s exams have been postponed, the exams scheduled for Monday will proceed depending on weather conditions.

To ensure the convenience of students, a decision has been made to allow those who could not attend Saturday’s exam to take it on another day.

Educational institutions, including Tribhuvan University, have been conducting exams under pressure from the academic calendar, but these plans have been disrupted due to flooding and inundation.

Since Friday evening, continuous rain and flooding have impacted daily life in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas.

Water has entered school and college buildings, causing significant damage to physical structures.

The closure of educational institutions has also affected the quarterly examinations of students up to grade 12.

The government has directed that university exams be held the day after the last scheduled exam.

Regular classes will resume once the effects of the floods and inundation diminish.
