KATHMANDU: The relentless heavy rainfall has triggered widespread disasters across the country, resulting in significant damage.

As of Saturday night, 112 people have lost their lives, and 68 individuals remain missing due to flooding and landslides.

In various districts, at least 100 individuals have sustained injuries from the disaster. Many regions across the country have experienced severe damage to roads, bridges, and electrical infrastructure, severely impacting daily life.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Kathmandu Valley has recorded the highest rainfall in 54 years on Saturday.

The department measured 323 millimeters of rain over a 24-hour period, a historically high amount.

This incessant rainfall has resulted in 37 fatalities in the Kathmandu Valley alone, with an additional 20 people reported missing.

According to reports from security agencies, the highest number of casualties occurred in Kavre district, where 34 people died, followed by Lalitpur with 20, Dhading with 15, Kathmandu with 12, and Makwanpur with 7.

In Phidim and Bhaktapur, 5 individuals lost their lives each, while Sindhupalchowk and Dolakha recorded 4 and 3 fatalities, respectively. Other affected districts include Dhankuta, Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Mahottari, and Sunsari, where damage to lives and property has occurred.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing for the missing individuals, with security personnel actively engaged in relief efforts.

The number of missing persons has reached 68 across more than 12 districts, including Panchthar, Jhapa, Mahottari, Sindhuli, Sindhupalchok, Kavre, and Kathmandu.

The government has intensified rescue and relief operations nationwide, and efforts are underway to relocate affected populations to safer areas.

The meteorological department has forecasted that rain will continue for several more days, urging the public to remain vigilant.

This disaster has profoundly affected many rural and urban areas, posing significant challenges for reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.
