Water flow in Koshi Barrage surges to nearly 6 Lakh cusecs, bridge flooded & traffic halted

Due to the increased water flow, water is now flowing over the bridge of the Koshi Barrage.

KATHMANDU: The water flow through the Koshi Barrage has surged to nearly six lakh cubic feet per second (cusecs).

According to the latest measurement by the Koshi Barrage Control Room, the flow has reached 590,385 cusecs, as informed by Sunsari Deputy Superintendent of Police, Navin Krishna Bhandari.

Due to the increased water flow, water is now flowing over the bridge of the Koshi Barrage.

DSP Bhandari mentioned that the floodwaters are also flowing over the bridge

. With the high water levels, vehicular movement across the Koshi Barrage has been suspended, according to Sunsari’s Chief District Officer, Ram Chandra Tiwari.

In response to the rising water levels, all 56 gates of the barrage, including 52 from the main barrage, two from the Sunsari canal, and two from the Saptari side, have been opened.

Until further notice, movement of vehicles and people across the barrage has been restricted, as stated by CDO Tiwari.
