Landslide in Pakhribas claims lives of mother & daughter
The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall around 3 AM, buried the house of local resident Santosh Tamang.
KATHMANDU: A landslide in Guranshe Deviathan of Pakhribas Municipality-5 in Dhankuta has resulted in the tragic deaths of a mother and daughter early this morning.
The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall around 3 AM, buried the house of local resident Santosh Tamang.
According to police reports, 32-year-old Aasha Tamang and her 50-year-old mother, Ram Kumari Tamang, were buried under the debris.
Santosh’s family had recently constructed a new home, but they had not yet moved in.
When the landslide began during the night, Aasha went to retrieve belongings, but both she and her mother were buried under the landslide.
Rescue efforts by the police and locals using a JCB excavator led to the discovery of the mother and daughter’s bodies.
Additionally, a neighbor, 24-year-old Minamaya Tamang, was injured while assisting in the effort to retrieve belongings and has been taken to Dhankuta District Hospital for treatment.
She is pregnant and has been taken to Dhankuta District Hospital for treatment.
