Mayor on the run for cooperative fraud held at Delhi Airport

KATHMANDU: Baglung’s Dhorpatan Municipality Mayor, Devkumar Nepali, has been arrested at Delhi airport.

Mayor Nepali, who was on the run in connection with a cooperative fraud case involving Image Cooperative, was apprehended with the coordination of Interpol, which had issued a red notice against him.

Nepal Police’s acting Inspector General, Tek Prasad Rai, confirmed the arrest, stating that the process of bringing Nepali back to Nepal is underway.

Mayor Nepali is accused of embezzling millions from 1,481 depositors.

The police had filed a fraud case against him through the government’s attorney office, citing a loss of Rs 1.33 billion.

After the case was filed, Mayor Nepali had gone into hiding.

The case is currently under consideration at the Baglung District Court.
