KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has announced the schedule for the upcoming by-election, scheduled for Dec 1 (Mangsir 16).

According to the commission’s spokesperson, Narayan Prasad Sapkota, candidate nominations will take place on Nov 17 (Mangsir 2), with the list of candidates being published the same day between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

Spokesperson Sapkota mentioned that candidates can register their nominations at the office of the election officer from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the same day.

Complaints against candidates can be filed on Nov 18 (Mangsir 3) from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, as stated in the Election Commission’s press release.

On the same day, from 3:00 PM to Nov 19 (Mangsir 4) until 5:00 PM, the commission will review and decide on the nomination papers and complaints. The final candidate list will be published between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM on Nov 18 (Mangsir 3) at the election officer’s office.

On Nov 20 (Mangsir 5), from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their names.

The final list of candidates will be published the same day from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and election symbols will be distributed between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

As per the election schedule, voting will take place on November 30 (Mangsir 16) from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the designated polling stations.

The Election Commission has also declared a silence period, banning all campaigning 48 hours before voting, starting from midnight on Nov 28 (Mangsir 13).
