KATHMANDU: Inspector Binukumari Shahi, head of the Bhainsepati Police Unit in Lalitpur, has been stripped of her duties after allegations of extortion surfaced.

She is accused of engaging in a transaction with an individual by threatening to implicate a businessman in a rape case.

Inspector Shahi allegedly detained a businessman and demanded a payment of Rs 3 million, instructing the person to deposit the money into a bank account under a relative’s name.

A seven-member investigation committee, led by DSP Narhari Adhikari, has been formed to probe the case.
