Water Supply Minister wants sewage treatment plant constructed at earliest

Minister Yadav issued this directive while carrying out an onsite inspection of the under-construction sewage treatment plant today.

KATHMANDU: Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav has directed the body concerned to complete the construction of a sewage treatment plant at Dhobighat, Lalitpur on time and bring into operation at the earliest.

He expressed satisfaction over the progress of the construction works so far.

Minister Yadav issued this directive while carrying out an onsite inspection of the under-construction sewage treatment plant today.

The plant is constructed by the Project Implementation Directorate under the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL).

On the occasion, Minister Yadav described the project as an extremely important one for management of sewage in the context of rapidly increasing urbanization in the Kathmandu Valley, stressing on the need of operating the project in time.

“The effective operation of sewage treatment plants will contribute in an important way in improving the water quality and maintaining environmental sanitation in the Kathmandu Valley. Projects like this will reduce the environmental pollution, thereby, improving public health,” he added.

Minister Yadav also pledged to provide all the support required for the project from the Ministry, saying the timely implementation of such projects would be ensured keeping monitoring in priority.

According to the Water Supply Minister, the government will continue to prioritize construction of such sewage processing plants for environment conservation and public health improvement.

The Minister instructed the construction company to complete the construction of the project within the deadline while honestly complying with the construction standards.

Also today, Minister Yadav inspected the under-construction sewage treatment plant at Balkumari (Kodku). After the inspection, he directed the contractor company to speed up the construction works by mobilizing resources.

In course of the inspection visit, the Minister acquired detailed information on the present status of the plant, the sewage treatment system and the progress of remaining works.

Ministry Secretary Er Pramila Devi Shakya Bajracharya, Joint Secretary Ramakanta Duwadu, Directorate Director Tika Bahadur Chaudhary, among other officials accompanied the Minister during the inspection and monitoring visit.
