Protest erupts in Maitighar as supporters demand release of Durga Prasai (photos)

KATHMANDU: Supporters of medical professional Durga Prasai staged a protest at Maitighar against his arrest. On Tuesday, they demonstrated with black tape over their mouths to express their dissent.

Prasai was taken into custody on Sunday by a team from the Cyber Bureau of the Nepal Police from his residence in Bhaktapur, facing accusations of character assassination.

His supporters argued that their right to speak has been violated, prompting them to rally.

Before his arrest, Prasai was reported to have told police, “I will fight against KP Oli until the last drop of blood.” His supporters echoed this sentiment on placards during the protest.

They have demanded his immediate release, citing the charges of cybercrime filed against him.
