Jimbu Thakali fined 3 lakhs for selling Rs. 35 mineral water at Rs. 100
This action was taken for selling mineral water at double the marked price.
KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce and Supply Consumer Protection has imposed a fine of Rs 300,000 on Jimbu Thakali, located in Shanti Nagar, Kathmandu.
This action was taken for selling mineral water at double the marked price.
Complaints arose after customers reported that Jimbu Thakali was charging Rs 100 for mineral water, which is normally priced at NPR 35. In response, a team led by Director General Rajan Paudel conducted a surprise inspection of the restaurant.
Paudel stated that he himself was deceived by the restaurant. He explained that the establishment engaged in consumer fraud by charging double the marked price for water, which violates the Consumer Protection Act 2075.
As a result, they faced a fine of Rs 300,000 along with a warning.
He further indicated that if the restaurant is found selling any items, including water, above the marked price in the future, it would be shut down.
Paudel also mentioned that seven teams from the department are currently monitoring the market in preparation for the upcoming festivals.
He emphasized the need to intensify market inspections to protect consumers from fraud across Kathmandu Valley and the country as a whole.
