KATHMANDU: Durga Prasai, a medical professional, has alleged that he was arrested under false charges.

He was taken into custody from his home on Sunday afternoon.

In a statement posted on social media platform Facebook later that evening, Prasai claimed that he is facing baseless accusations under the Electronic Transactions Act.

He expressed concern over the implications of these charges on his reputation and professional integrity.

The coordinator of the “National, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizen Rescue Campaign,” Prasai, wrote on Facebook: “In response to the humiliation inflicted on the citizens by the state, the widespread corruption, poverty, and inflation in the country, and in support of the victims of cooperatives and microfinance, the feudal KP government has filed false charges against me and arrested me. I have been brought to the respected district court via the Cyber Bureau and Bir Hospital. While I am in court, I have learned that over 300 of our campaign’s activist friends are facing police raids at their homes, including arrests, searches, and threats. The corrupt KP government may hold me in custody, beat me, and subject me to mental torture, but I do not fear death—I am fighting for the liberation of the people. However, if any harm comes to my dear activist friends, the price will be high. Our friends are preparing to start a phased protest movement against the violence inflicted upon them, beginning this Monday, Sept 22. The form and details of the movement will be announced soon. Let no one act rashly; even if I am not here for this campaign to save the citizens, it will continue.”
