KATHMANDU: The newly reconstructed Dharahara tower in Sundhara, Kathmandu, will be open to the public starting today.

This decision was made during the cabinet meeting held on Bhadra 27 (Sept 12).

The tower is being inaugurated on the occasion of Constitution Day.

Arrangements have been made to allow 500 visitors to climb Dharahara daily. According to project chief Kosh Nath Adhikari, preparations are underway for an online ticketing system.

If online ticketing is not possible, physical tickets will be available at the Dharahara premises.

For the time being, entry to Dharahara is free, and parking is also provided at no cost.

Visitors will have access to two electric elevators, and each will be allowed around 10 minutes to ascend and descend.

Photography and videography are permitted.

The decision to open Dharahara was made while the government is still finalizing operational guidelines, so full preparations have not yet been completed.

Before the earthquake, Kathmandu Metropolitan City was responsible for managing the old Dharahara, but after the new construction, the city has requested the federal government to take over its operation again.

The internal structure of the new Dharahara has 22 floors, while the exterior resembles the original 11-floor design.

The remains of the old tower, which collapsed during the earthquake, have been preserved and are open for viewing.
