KATHMANDU: Today marks Constitution Day and National Day 2081, being celebrated with enthusiasm through various programs both at home and abroad.

Federal, state, and local governments, political parties, NGOs, civil society, private sectors, and social organizations are marking the occasion with diverse activities.

In the federal capital, Kathmandu, the main Constitution Day event will take place this morning at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel. President Ram Chandra Paudel will be the chief guest at the ceremony.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is the Chairperson of the Constitution Day Main Ceremony Committee, will deliver a speech.

Additionally, President Poudel is scheduled to host a reception at the President’s House this evening.

Nepal’s diplomatic missions abroad will also organize Constitution Day programs. The constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal was promulgated by the Constituent Assembly on Sept 20, 2015 (Ashwin 3, 2072 BS), following decades of struggle, sacrifice, and people’s movements by the Nepalese people.

Nepal’s constitution, enshrined in 35 parts, 308 articles, and 9 schedules, embraces federalism, inclusive democracy, proportional and inclusive representation, secularism, and other key principles. It is committed to building a prosperous nation based on democratic values and socialist principles.

The government has designated this day as Constitution Day and National Day every year since the constitution’s promulgation.

Today marks the completion of nine years since Nepal’s constitution, encompassing all constitutional provisions for governance by the people, came into effect. In celebration of Constitution Day, a musical presentation will take place at Durbar Marg in Kathmandu, organized by civil society.

Meanwhile, on this occasion, the President, Prime Minister, Speaker, Chairperson of the National Assembly, and leaders of various political parties have extended their best wishes and called on the public to celebrate National Day with great joy.

The government has also encouraged people to light oil lamps and hoist the national flag to mark Constitution Day.
