KATHMANDU: Nobel Medical College Teaching Hospital has expanded its cancer treatment services.
On Sept 17, the hospital inaugurated radiation therapy services in a newly constructed building during a formal ceremony.
With an investment of Rs 3 billion, the new facility includes a bunker for radiation therapy, land acquisition, and state-of-the-art equipment.
Nobel Cancer Hospital will now offer comprehensive services such as outpatient services (OPD), daycare, inpatient services, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgeries, and more.
The hospital has introduced advanced equipment for radiation therapy, including the “Edge” machine from Varian, brachytherapy technology, and Siemens’ SOMATOM Go. Sim RTCT machine. This expansion enables Nobel to provide all essential cancer treatments.
Dr. Pradeep Bhandari, an oncologist at Nobel, stated that the Edge machine is the first of its kind in Nepal. It is equipped with cutting-edge technology such as 6D couch, Hyper Arch, and HDMIC, which can eliminate cancer without surgery.
Additionally, the SRS and SBRT features precisely target and destroy cancer cells within the body.
Dr. Bhandari further explained that technologies like IGRT, IMRT, and VMAT focus on eliminating cancer cells without damaging healthy tissues, making radiation therapy more accurate and effective.
Nobel has also introduced brachytherapy, which uses minimally invasive tools to directly target cancer cells within the body without pain.
Another key addition to the new building is the 4D RTCT scan machine, which assists in radiation therapy by providing enhanced imaging.
On the occasion of the inauguration, Chair Loknath Neupane and his family performed rituals to mark the celebration of Bishwakarma Puja and the launch of the cancer treatment services.
Following the rituals, Chair Neupane officially inaugurated the cancer treatment building by cutting the ribbon in the presence of consultants, faculty members, officials, and staff. Attendees were also given a tour of the facility.
Nobel Medical College has also been listed under the Nepal Government’s Fund for the Treatment of Impoverished Citizens.
This will make cancer treatment services more accessible to underprivileged patients in eastern Nepal.
