KATHMANDU: Adarsha Secondary School in Biratnagar has launched a skill-based education program, targeting students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

During a program held on Tuesday, the school commenced a training course focused on tailoring and cutting for students, as informed by the school’s principal, Santosh Pokharel.

Pokharel emphasized that traditional education alone may not be enough to nurture students’ talents, which is why the school has prioritized skill-based education.

He mentioned that the school’s initiative aligns with the national educational objective of fostering inherent student talent, and the program was designed with students’ needs in mind.

As part of a bilateral agreement between the Rotary Club of Downtown Biratnagar and Adarsha Secondary School, students enrolled in the school will receive training in tailoring and cutting, according to school officials.

In a ceremony held during the event, Manju Agrawal, the president of the Rotary Club, handed over the machines to the chairman of the school’s management committee, Bikash Parajuli, to mark the occasion of Vishwakarma Puja.

One of the school’s classrooms has been transformed into a tailoring and cutting lab, where a dedicated instructor has been assigned, as Pokharel mentioned.

The program was initiated with seven sewing machines donated by the Rotary Club of Downtown Biratnagar.

Taking the students’ academic schedules into account, the school will offer training every day from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, as well as on Fridays, when selected students will spend most of the day receiving training.
