Agreement to expand cancer treatment services at BP Memorial Cancer Hospital

KATHMANDU: An agreement has been signed between the Chitwan-based BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital and the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences on expansion of cancer treatment services.

Hospital Executive Director Dr Shivaji Poudel and PoAHS Director Dr Bharat Bahadur Khatri signed on the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations in the presence of Minister for Health and Population Pradip Poudel today.

As per the agreement, the services, including out-patient and in-patient, has to be operated at least once in every month.

On the occasion, Minister Poudel said that the plan for service expansion has been implemented with the optimal utilization of the resources at disposal.

He stressed on the need of classifying the health institutions on the basis of the services. The Health Minister spoke of the need of making the health insurance contribution-based.

Minister Poudel pledged support from the Ministry in the construction of infrastructure at both hospitals, adding that he was working towards making the procurement process transparent.

Additional Secretary at the Ministry, Dr Bikas Devkota, Chair of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital Dr Bijaya Neupane, Nepali Congress Kaski president Kishor Datta Baral, among the speakers shed light on the cancer treatment services available at the hospitals.

Health Minister Poudel also inspected the West Regional Hospital and the Family Planning Association of Nepal Pokhara Office, and also acquired information about their service delivery.
