KATHMANDU: On the second day of Indra Jatra, Kumari Puja was celebrated today in the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square in Kathmandu.

The ritual involved worshipping young girls who have undergone their rice-feeding ceremony (Pasni) but have not yet been married.

According to popular belief, receiving blessings from Kumari Puja protects individuals from various diseases. It is also believed that the ceremony prevents calamities in the country, ensures the well-being of children, and removes obstacles from one’s life.

After the formal worship, the young girls who participated in the Kumari Puja were taken in a cultural procession with music to receive blessings from Taleju Bhawani.

They were then led to visit the shrines in the Mul Chowk, Nasal Chowk, and surrounding areas of Hanuman Dhoka Durbar, marking the conclusion of the Kumari Puja.
