Man kills wife with khukuri in Dhankuta, injures himself

KATHMANDU: A man has killed his wife by attacking her with a khukuri (traditional Nepali knife) in Dhankuta.

The incident took place in Katahare, located in Mahalaxmi Municipality-1, where 29-year-old Bijaya Darji fatally attacked his 25-year-old wife, Sarita Darji, with a khukuri, according to police.

Sarita, who was critically injured in the attack, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at District Hospital Dhankuta at around 4 AM on Sunday, informed DSP Rajbabu Maharjan, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Dhankuta.

Per the preliminary investigation, the incident occurred following a minor domestic dispute.

After attacking his wife, Bijaya also attempted to harm himself with the khukuri.

He was rushed to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for treatment.

The couple has two daughters.

Police have launched a further investigation into the case.
