KATHMANDU: More than 60 people in the village of Jhapa have fallen ill after consuming offerings from a religious ceremony.

The incident occurred in Ward No. 9 of Arjundhara Municipality.

According to Bhishma Mishra, the ward chairperson, the incident took place at the home of Rita Niraula in Kharbendi, where a religious ceremony was conducted on Wednesday.

The guests and local residents, who attended the ceremony and consumed the offerings, became sick shortly after.

The offerings included vegetables, roti (flatbread), and pickles.

Most of those who ate the food developed symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, with some even experiencing fever.

The affected individuals are currently receiving treatment at local clinics.
