KATHMANDU: Former Chief Minister of Koshi State, Kedar Karki, ended his hunger strike late last night, which he had started on Tuesday to raise several demands.

The strike was called off after a written agreement was reached between Karki and the State’s Minister of Internal Affairs and Law, Leela Vallabh Adhikari.

The agreement mentions that the provincial government has taken Karki’s demands seriously and promised to fulfill the legitimate ones. It also highlights that some of the demands have already been incorporated into the budget and are in the process of being implemented. The government has pledged to address the remaining demands as well.

Karki ended his strike after efforts by Koshi State Congress Chair and Parliamentary Party Leader Uddhav Thapa, along with Mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City Nagesh Koirala and other leaders.

Earlier, Chief Minister of Koshi State Hikmat Karki had held discussions with Uddhav Thapa and Nagesh Koirala regarding the former Chief Minister’s demands.

Throughout the day, Chief Minister Karki reassured them that the demands raised by Kedar Karki had been addressed in the budget. The hunger strike was initiated by Kedar Karki in protest against the cuts to programs he had started during his tenure as Chief Minister.
