KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced a scheduled power outage in key areas of Kathmandu for the purpose of conducting work on underground transmission lines.

In a notice, the NEA stated that power will be cut off in various locations under the Ratnapark Distribution Center.

Most areas under this center have already undergone underground transmission line installations.

According to the notice, power will be cut to facilitate necessary work on these underground lines.

The outage will affect areas under the Mahabauddha feeder, including New Road Gate, Ranjana Hall, inside the Bishal Bazaar Substation, in front of Bishal Bazaar, Ganeshsthan, and up to the cable head near the Trauma Center. The power cut will occur from 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM.

Similarly, areas such as Ratnapark Garden, Bhotahtity Saja Bhandar, Asan Chowk, Bangemudha, Bhedasingh, Indrachowk, Surya Arcade, and Masala Galli Mode will also experience power cuts during the same timeframe.

In addition, from the Lainchaur Substation, areas including Lainchaur Chowk, the Vice President’s Office, Keshar Mahal, Durbar Marg Traffic Office, the old Jai Nepal Hall, Hattisar Chowk, Kathmandu Plaza, Marriott Hotel, Nagpokhari, and Narayanchowk will face power outages from 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM, according to the NEA’s notice.

The notice further mentioned that the outage is necessary for the removal of unused utility poles and the maintenance of distribution transformers. “If the assigned work is completed ahead of schedule, power may be restored earlier,” the notice added.

The NEA apologized for any inconvenience caused to consumers due to the outage. It also mentioned that it is making the necessary technical preparations to transmit electricity through the newly installed underground lines in the Kathmandu Valley.
